Schneider Electric signs MOU with NAPTIN on capacity development
Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) for manpower development in the power sector.
According to the terms of the MoU, Schneider Electric will provide specialised training courses to NAPTIN trainers at Schneider Electric’s facility and also facilitate the delivery of practical trainings on deployment of consumables (cables and wires) and low/medium voltage power management systems at the NAPTIN facility in locations across the country.
Speaking after the signing ceremony in Abuja, Country President of Schneider Electric, Marcel Hochet noted that the agreement symbolises Schneider Electric’s training commitment with both the Federal Government and stakeholders in the power sector. The MoU will significantly impact on the ability of the government to deliver on its power sector commitments to the Nigerian people, raise skilled technical people for the power sector and also reduce unemployment rate in the country.
He emphasised that Schneider electric stands ready to provide sustainable capacity development platforms for accelerated growth of the power sector, such as the public private partnership between Schneider electric and NAPTIN.
Commenting on the MoU, the Director General of NAPTIN, Engr. Reuben Okeke, said Schneider Electric has once again taken industry leadership initiative to build the professional level of technical manpower required to match up with the infrastructural expansion in the power sector.
Okeke described the collaboration as timely given the power revolution sweeping through the power sector and if Nigeria is to sustain the current gains in the sector, there is urgent need for knowledgeable manpower to maintain and develop current achievement. This also is in line with our vision which is to be a lead training centre of excellence through development and implementation of state-of-the-art training and capacity building programmes in partnership with national and international stakeholders like Schneider Electric.
